James Cameron is a Grinch to 'Avatar' fan at airport

James Cameron just made Santa's naughty list.

The director may have a sleigh full of booty — thanks in part to a little indie called "Titanic" — but his Scrooge side came out to an "Avatar" fan at LAX.

TMZ posted video on Christmas Eve of Cameron walking past a man carrying an "Avatar" poster at the Los Angeles airport. The man followed Cameron, hoping to get the poster signed.

The men got into an argument after Cameron told the man "I don't owe you a f---ing signature ... just get out of my f--king personal space."

The fan retaliated, yelling, "I'm an a--hole because I ask someone I admire for their autograph that makes me an a--hole? I make $15-an-hour at work to go see your film and I'm an a--hole?"

TMZ polled its fans, asking who was the a--hole, James Cameron, the fan or both?

By 4 p.m. ET on Thursday, 75,752 votes had come in, with 81 percent voting for Cameron, 14 percent for the fan, and 5 percent for both.

Granted, it's probably irritating to be stalked through an airport, but this is not the first time Cameron has been called out on his temper and treatment of others.

On the "Titanic" set, James Cameron called star Kate Winslet “Kate Weighs-a-Lot," and she was quoted in a 2007 story in The Independent of London as saying she would not work with him again unless it was for "a lot of money."

According to the same story, Cameron told everyone on the set of "True Lies" that going to the lavatory was a fireable offence, and he meant it. On "Terminator 2," his crew made T-shirts that read "You Can't Scare Me - I Work For Jim Cameron."

Orson Scott Card — who wrote the science fiction novel, "The Abyss," based on Cameron's screenplay for his 1989 film — described his experience working with Cameron as "hell on wheels. He was very nice to me, because I could afford to walk away. But he made everyone around him miserable, and his unkindness did nothing to improve the film in any way. Nor did it motivate people to work faster or better."

But he does have his defenders, including Jamie Lee Curtis of "True Lies" and Sigourney Weaver, who has benefited from the strong female roles Cameron has given her in "Aliens" and "Avatar."

As Weaver told New York Magazine, "Well, he was always so sweet to me during 'Aliens.' And that was a tough picture for him, because the crew had this big Ridley Scott obsession, and it took him a while to get their attention as a filmmaker. But with me and the other actors, I always felt, he cast so well; he's so devoted to his actors. He does get impatient with filmmaking in a way, but he always pushes himself harder than anybody else, so even though he can be a little growl-y, it's over in a second when you move on. He operated on every single shot in this movie."

Cameron has defended his methods, saying 'People call me a perfectionist, but I'm not. I'm a rightist. I do something until it's right, and then I move on to the next thing."

Looks to me like Cameron politely declined and then the a--hole couldn't take no for an answer.

"No" means "no." Especially when it's James C. You go, James. (Whatever *that* means! ;-) )

This "fan" is a jerk. It sounds like he's a decent guy just trying to get an autograph when you are reading what he said to Cameron, but if you watch the actual video, he was being a jack***. I don't care how rude or obnoxious people have said Cameron is in the past, it still doesn't justify such annoying behavior by the so-called "fan." I would have been just as angry if I was Cameron because this "fan" is NOT entitled to an autograph just because he paid money to see a movie.

i can see both sides of it. James Cameron can be a jerk but its a hard business to be in. He gives hell and gets hell and happens to make a lot money out of it. that's his job. He makes good movies and that should be al that matters. BTW if the fan thought the Avatar plot was crap than why did he press Cameron for an autograph....hypocrysy
