LL Cool J
Veteran rapper LL Cool J claims the late Michael Jackson recently visited him in a dream and penned a remix to the classic hit "Billie Jean."
Annie LL, are you okay?
The "Rock the Bells" rapper (born James Todd Smith) insists the words to the remix came directly from Jackson himself.
"Michael was one of my childhood idols and has always been a great inspiration to me," LL, 41, told Billboard magazine.
He adds, "After hearing the tragic news of Michael Jackson's death, the lyrics for the 'Billie Jean' remix came to me in a dream."
Like any true emcee, Smith had a pen and a pad next to his bedside and apparently, scribbled down the song as soon as he woke up then fittingly titled it 'Billie Jean Dream'.
Over the "Billie Jean" beat, LL rhymes:
"Number one in the world, imagine how it feels to hit up Sony for a billion on a deal, Buy out the Beatles, tell Paul to chill / Too live to talk, y'all read it in my will/... There's one King of Pop, nothing else poppin' off, comparing him to me, oh, please knock it off/ All of y'all emanating from one source/ Try to imitate it, but you can't pull it off.
"Hold my umbrella, give me some support, While I dance on the roof of the truck after court/ Can't pull me down, I don't know what y'all thought."
Smith recorded the song a few days after his dream and released it on his blog on Monday, August 10.
According to MTV.com, Cool J also "announced a Michael Jackson tribute contest on his Web site, Boomdizzle.com. Fans are encouraged to write their own MJ tribute songs, remix classic Jackson tracks or create music videos, and the winners will be promoted on the site."
