What do we really know about Michael Jackson's childhood?
After Michael's death many clips were shown on the news of a past interview with him. The interviewer asks him about his earlier years as a child star. He tells the interviewer that he did not have a normal childhood. During the day he went to school and after school his time was spent in a recording studio. All the while his father would belittle and berate him. The interviewer asks if he was beaten by his father and Michael hesitates and then says yes. He says if you want to understand him read the lyrics to his song "Childhood".
Childhood lyrics
Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for the world that I come from
'Cause I've been looking around
In the lost and found of my heart...
No one understands me
They view it as such strange eccentricities...
'Cause I keep kidding around
Like a child, but pardon me...
People say I'm not okay
'Cause I love such elementary things...
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood
I've never known...
Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like pirates in adventurous dreams,
Of conquest and kings on the throne...
Before you judge me, try hard to love me,
Look within your heart then ask,
Have you seen my Childhood?
People say I'm strange that way
'Cause I love such elementary things,
It's been my fate to compensate,
for the Childhood I've never known...
Have you seen my Childhood?
I'm searching for that wonder in my youth
Like fantastical stories to share
The dreams I would dare, watch me fly...
Before you judge me, try hard to love me.
The painful youth I've had
Have you seen my Childhood...
Was it Michael Jackson's lack of a childhood that lead to his bizarre behaviors? Was it the media spreading rumors about him that lead to drug abuse and his untimely death? Some suggest that the facial surgery might have been a form of self mutilation. It's all speculation, we will never know what the truth is or was.
It seems like he tried to let us into his world and into his mind a number of times through his music and some past interviews. Perhaps it was all just over our heads and we simply could not relate to what he went through in his life. Whatever the case, we cannot deny the legacy he has left behind, his music is a gift that will live on forever. The world took Michael Jackson for granted and now that he's gone we see how important Michael Jackson really was. Many people around the world lost an irreplaceable idol on June 25, 2009. Hopefully he somehow knows how much he meant to us and how sorely he will be missed by all.

It so sad & painful 2 see a legend just depart the way he did.Neverthless he has made his mark no earth irrespective of people's diverse perception of him.He still remains the greatest & most popular human being that ever lived on planet earth even after his demise.May his childish & musical soul rest in peace.Hw I wished he lived a little longer to give his children the much elusive CHILDHOOD that he never had and possibly groom any of them 2 take after him MUSICALLY. Adieu MJ
Wow~ your words in the article are so true...why do we wait for a legend to die to truly respect and appreciate him? i feel so sorry for him and the life he lived. he worked so hard to not only entertain and make people happy but also to make the world a better place. no one can ever really know what he went through. but i do know he will be sorely missed....
This is not suitable for children. Every time I check, there is another bizarre Michael Jackson story. Who cares about these lyrics anyway? Opportunist, just trying to make a quick buck.
these lyrics aren't meant to be for children. they were written by an artist describing his childhood. and the reason you keep hearing michael jackson stories is because he is legend who just died. and i think there are millions, maybe billions of people who care about these lyrics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What part of this is not suitable for children? Why did that even matter to you? This is actually one of the most honest and least bizarre of all the Michael Jackson's stories I have read during the past week. It is nice that someone writes something meaningful and kind about him instead of spreading rubbish.
If I could say something to Michael, I would say "thank you." Thank you for being the first black crossover pop star I ever saw on TV---you were the embodiment of possibility. Thank you for showing me the rewards of excellence, good and bad. Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world even when much of the world turned their backs on you. Thank you for making me dance, laugh, smile, sweat and cry with impeccable rhythm. Thank you for completing your spiritual assignment in 50 short years during my own lifetime. Well done Mike and rest in peace. You've earned it.

I would say to Michael: You hardly belonged to this "crazy" and evil world, which totaly misunderstood you, and I hope you are in a better place now. But thank you for sharing with us your incredible talent and your beautiful innocent soul. It's such an inspiration to think we had you among us and so sad and painful to think we have "killed" you with our insensitivity, malice and cruelty. May you rest in peace.
I would like to thank him for signing my poster when i went to one of his concerts. I know you didn't do all those bad things that you were on trial for... you are inocent and all it was rumors so some on could get some money out of you. but indeed i know you already knew that. I love you and I wished you were my father. you are a great man and a wonderful entertainer. I would of loved to help you take care of your kids. you have a beautiful kids !!!! I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU Love Always Dawn Milan Frm COlORADO
