Actress Katherine Heigl (30) and her husband, singer/songwriter Josh Kelley, are in the process of adopting a baby girl from Korea.
She is a special needs baby and because of that it all moved so much faster," she said of the relatively-fast (at least six months) process. "They wanted to get her to us as quickly as possible.”
Katherine Heigl will officially announce the news this Friday on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. She has been open about wanting to adopt ever since she got married in December of 2007. The main reason being her sister Meg. Her sister was adopted from Korea and Heigl explains;
It’s definitely something we’ve talked about and want to do. I want to honor her and her part in my life. I think adoption is a hugely important thing.”
Katherine and Josh's new baby girl is 10 months old and will be named Naleigh after her mother-Nancy and sister-Leigh, "so we call her Naleigh,"
She was actually born the day before me in November which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign, I realized just recently that I basically forfeited my birthday for the rest of my life.”
The couple's adoption process has been in the works for at least six months and it is expected to be finalized this week.
Heigl jokes::
I wanted to tell everybody so you don't think I stole a Korean baby."
Melissa Kates, Heigl's spokeswoman, confirmed the news but wouldn't provide details.
