South Park hits a new low

Low-life South Park
(Source: AP)

South Park has always thrived on insulting Jews, insulting Blacks, insulting...well, just about everybody. When you can't get ratings through natural writing talent, it's always been the "American" way to shock. This time, South Park may have went too far.

In the new episode titled "Dead Celebrities" Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the low-life writers, make fun of Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Billy Mays, Walter Cronkite, etc. It's not only tasteless but this episode just adds to the sadness currently experienced by all the mourning relatives.

It's amazing this show has lasted twelve years. South Park is a display of how bad American culture is to the rest of the world. Lets hope Trey Parker and Matt Stone meet a new friend, Karma.

uh...it's south park. duh. Get over yourself honey. They have been doing that for years...and their ratings are just fine. Perhaps you should try and "write" something positive instead of attacking Cartoons and Mariah Carey all the time.

Geez, lighten up, sweetheart. It's a cartoon show. Besides, you've shown your hand. You obviously have had an already biased opinion against the show, so why bother even give a review. It removes every shred of credence to your story. Oh, and trust me, if you think this is South Park's "new low", then you have never seen this show. The truth is that South Park is by far one of the most important television shows today, particularly from a political stand point. So I say, God bless Matt and Trey.

If you think South Park is the problem in America, then you are horribly mistaken. Matt and Trey are very intelligent writers who don't have to stoop to new lows to get ratings. If you hate the show, why are you reviewing it?

Sue: No wonder you work for this website and aren't a real writer yourself. You are probably oblivious to all of the cultural and political references the show pokes fun at. South Park can be vulgar, but it definitely doesn't "shock". For example, something as simple as 'Kanye, do you like fish sticks?' and the alternate story line where Cartman convinces himself he came up with a joke Jimmy wrote perfectly sheds light on Kanye West's huge ego, closeted homosexuality, and twisted perception of reality. You don't call that natural writing? Get real.

Same Here: Liberals find this show hilarious. Especially because 70% of the time it's poking fun at religious/conservative hypocrisy, but in ways that a typical Palin-lovin' Republican wouldn't be able to understand.

OMG your review is pathetic. A real journalist would have done at least a little research first.

    A) South Park doesn't insult "just about everybody", they insult EVERYBODY. No favoritism.

    B) "natural writing talent" is not something you are qualified to observe.

    C) "American Culture" is the worst?? Care to elaborate or just make baseless complaints? You need to get out more. Besides, South Park is more in-line with Internet culture than solely American Culture.

    D) There is irony in your comment about Karma, as that is a major undertone in many South Park episodes.

    E) I think conservatives and liberals alike would disown article as being naive and guesswork. Do you get paid for what you do?

Wow, this article is ridiculous. For you to say this is a new low, shows how many episodes you have seen. The episodes they have done on religion and race were much more insulting, yet hilarious. Regardless, the only celebrities they really degraded were Michael Jackson, and I guess David Caradine (but that was how he died). What's "low" about simply showing or mentioning a celebrity who has recently passed away. Though they did take a shot at Michael I highly doubt it made any impact on how people remember him. Finally, if you think this is the first time they have made a joke out of a recent celebrity death, you should watch the episodes from a few years ago where they made fun of Steve Irwin.

These people are calling you an idiot, however I disagree. You hit the nail write on the head and yes, they the humor in South Park is mostly "shocking". However, the episode was also a satire of how obsessive this country is on the death of celebrities. Surely we all remember the 24/7 news coverage in the weeks following Michael Jackson's death. Try to read between the lines before making an assumption. Also, celebrities bring themselves into the limelight in life and death and therefore should accept the consequences of falling into the cross hairs of guys like Trey and Matt.

Ok. I am a huge South Park fan, so I am kind of biased. But I won't say that this writer should get AIDS... Even if she is wrong. We all deserve an opinion, and if it wasn't for free speech we wouldn't have any South Park, the greatest show of all time.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are NOT low life writers. Actually, they are quite conservative in most of their ideas. Almost every show has a good meaning/lesson behind it, and if you've watched the show you would know that.

Celebrities are in the limelight in death just like in life, and in reality they didn't give them too bad of a time. I thought the only one they got bad was Michael Jackson. When Michael Jackson was alive EVERYONE made fun of him, and rightfully so. The guy was a creep. Once he died everyone decided he was an alright chap. No one said anything the first time Trey and Matt went after Jackson, why should that change once he is dead?

In other fascinating entries to your little blog you defend David Letterman's adultery and claim Jon Gosselin is an injured party. Gosselin withdrew $230k from a bank account for his children's welfare. You should know that before writing about him - you're addicted to 'celebrities', remember. Your defense of Letterman's adultery is beyond mocking, whilst you hope the writers of South Park meet 'karma' for writing satire.
Have you been missing some medication lately? Is someone going to be looking for you, are you allowed out alone? I suggest that you stop writing, deal with your own inner insecurities, which demands you reply to the kind of criticism you 'bestow' on South Park, perhaps then you will see that being quiet is often the best option. Or at least, learn some writing skills that you seem to have avoided in you '20 year career' I would also love, just love to see some of your other 'top notch' writing. Is it on your mom's fridge?

To be honest, as a Brit, I think south park shows what's great about American Culture. Complete freedom of speech. The freedom to mock those who need mocking. Sure, there is a whole lot of profanity in the episodes and some low brow toilet humour. But there is always a message behind that, something which the shows' critics either don't see, or choose to ignore.

Listen, Matt and Trey are arriving late to this party. Over the television, internet, and radio, people are and have made jokes regarding the many celebrities' deaths. Stephan Colbert makes a joke regarding Micheal Jackson being outlived by his plastic nose and its all laughs. But when SP does it, here come the whistle blowers.
I'm sure you're not a regular watcher, because you'd realize that everyone in the South Park Universe goes to hell, unless they're Mormon. Barrack Obama, Nelson Mandela, Brad Pitt, Drew Barrymore, Oprah... all are going to hell.

Get off you high horse, try and pull your ego out of you butt and get over it.

I never expected that she would reward everyone's hard work posting here with such a display. Maybe she doesn't know how the internet works?

I'm an aspiring writer at USC and I must say that some of South Park's episodes are damned brilliant. This episode wasn't their magnum opus but it was definitely a brilliant satire on America's obsession with a bunch of boring snobs (celebrities). Is Billy Mays really someone who we should care about? And is some has-been celebrity dying of anal cancer really more important than the economic crisis or, an even better question, is it worth getting hysterical over? No! Who gives a crap about Michael Jackson or Farrah Faucett (Spelling?). I know I don't; and no other intelligent person should care either. Worry more about you're own family's health instead of some moron celebrity whose life revolves around menial activities like which makeup to wear and which dress/designer to choose for the Oscars.

Hey "really?!" I don't mean any disrespect, I know you're a translated writer... But writers don't HAVE to know spelling and grammar. There's computer programs for spelling, and there are English majors for-hire when it comes to grammar corrections (Some of the best, most famous authors in the world didn't study English or Literature in college, you know). My uncle was a "well selling" writer (died of liver failure; who would have guessed), but yah, he was never able to help me with my grammar when I was younger! He used to say "Leave grammar to the ones who have the time to learn it." LOL! I don't know. I'm not a writer or anything; but that's just my uneducated opinion about that.
