Houston native Hilary Duff is taking on the phrase that has become commonplace among teenagers and twenty-somethings. Calling things "gay" is the new way of saying that something is stupid or unfortunate. The truly unfortunate thing is that the new meaning isn't derived from original definition of "happy", but rather that it evolved from the colloquialism of "homosexual".
According to the website thinkb4youspeak.com, "the rate at which students use and hear negative language about lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) people is huge. Over half of all students report hearing homophobic remarks often at school."
Hilary is joining other celebrities like comedienne Wanda Sykes in urging people to think before they use the term in a derogatory manner. You can see both of their PSAs in the CNN video below.

It is always amazing to me that heterosexuals, while treating their gay children in the worst of manners, will say 'that's so gay' right out in the open and without shame or embarrassment. (Morality???? Where??)
It is meant to degrade human beings. It is meant to dehumanize human beings. It is meant to hurt human beings.
So where is this heterosexual morality that so many of them are running around screaming their heads off about?????
Cuz I don't see it ANYWHERE.
Got something to say?
