Susie Wargin 9News sportscaster-triathlete & Colorado native creates WackyW Race

Susie Wargin currently working at 9News in Denver has become a fixture in local sports over the last decade winning her first Sportscast Emmy in 2009. Yes you know who she is, the perky curly haired always smiling well spoken female sports reporter whose voice you knew even before you ever saw her face. Yesterday you saw her covering the USA Pro Cycling Challenge and next month you'll see her running the 1st Annual WackyW Race.

This September Susie is combining her love of sports, love of family and skills with fundraising into a new event business the WackyW Race benefiting Douglas County Schools where she and her brother both have children.

Susie started her love of broadcasting as a kid where she listened to Steve Cooper on KBPI every evening when he "Rocked the Rockies" for us back in the day. She even recorded his "Top 8 at 8" segment so she could practice. The rest of Wargin's free time was taken up with playing any sport that the boys on the block were playing, so she does what she does because she loves it. That's always been apparent. This home town girl went on to study broadcasting at CSU and got her first job at the local radio station in Fort Collins. After paying her dues in the radio world she managed to land a job at KBPI in Steve Cooper's spot where Susie Wargin happily worked until 2009.

In 1998 Susie landed a gig on the 850 KOA Sports Zoo doing the sports update and becoming the first female sports reporter for KOA. Susie also had an itch to see what television broadcasting might be like so she did an internship at 9News where they took a chance on a female sports reporter and hired her to be the prep sports reporter. Three years later Susie was moved to her current morning sports anchor position at 9News. Her big smile is still winning her friends even though she has to arrive at work at 3 a.m. She is happy with that schedule however because it leaves the rest of the day to enjoy the Colorado sunshine and spend time with her kids in out in the sound end of Denver in Douglas County.

..."I hope you are enjoying your summer and taking time with your family.  Bonds between family and friends can always be stronger.  Remember to not only maintain your relationships, but keep them current and help them grow!" Susie Wargin

Not one to sit around, this year the education funding crisis in Douglas County prompted Susie to combine her skills, join forces with her brother Ted, start an event business "Wargin Events".  Their first fundraising biking event the WackyW will be held September 10, 2011.

The WackyW race features a family course of 7 miles, a long course of 34 miles and a longer course of 55 miles. $5 from the family course registration and $10 from the long and longer courses goes to the school of your choice in Douglas County or to the Douglas County Educational Foundation (DCEF) "fill the gap education initiative" program if you don't have a school preference.
