Mark David Chapman the man who killed legendary singer/songwriter John Lennon is up for parole just months before the 30 year anniversary of the former Beatles' death.

Mark David Chapman murdered John Lennon in 1980. Chapman was later sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. This will mark the sixth time that Mark David Chapman will be eligible for parole.

Mark David Chapman is scheduled to be interviewed by two members of the parole board on August 9th. According to CNN four letters were submitted this year against the release of Chapman along with two letters in support of his release.

Chapman was last up for parole in 2008 when the New York State Division of Parole issued a release stating Chapman's request was denied "due to concern for the public safety and welfare." He also was denied parole in 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006.

Officials say that while Mark David Chapman has his own cell he spends most of his time outside his cell working in the library or housekeeping.  According to CNN: "For the past 20 years he has been allowed conjugal visits with his wife, Gloria. The visits are part of a state program called "family reunion" that allows inmates to spend up to 44 hours at a time with family members in a special setting. Inmates must meet certain criteria to receive the privilege."

Yoko Ono, who's husband John Lennon was murdered by Mark David Chapman outside the couple's New York apartment building in 1980 has submitted letters in support of keeping Chapman in jail in previous years. Attempts to contact Ono on the subject failed.

"Mark David Chapman took John Lennon away from his wife, son, and millions of fans. He doesn't deserve to get parole," said one Cleveland resident. What are your thoughts on Mark David Chapman's parole chances? Leave your comments below.

Don't let him out. Let him rot. Better yet, kill him. He took away one of the greatest men who ever lived. He doesn't deserve to be a free man ever again.

He needs to go out like Wallace in Braveheart, stretched and gutted like a fish. If he is allowed to be a free man again... I will have no faith in the world we live in.

If anything, he's not getting out. If he goes 5 times before, for parole, and get denied, that stamps the letter. Let him die in jail.

I think he should get parole, but i doubt thats the right thing to do.He's putting himself endanger, and i know some loon is gonna try to kill him, like he did john. But where does that get us?
John's music is still very influential, and he's been dead for 30 years! How does killing Mark help,it doesn't make John any less famous and it wont bring him back.

    P.s. I am a Beatles & Lennon fan.

Let the bastard rot. He shot someone who had done nothing to him for no reason at all. Does he really have to be let out and kill someone else?

He has shown no real remorse. And has continued to soak up public attention for the last 30 years. So what would he do without it? Perhaps the same thing he did to John Lennon? And if were to say to the world that he would not kill again if something were to push him in that direction, then why wasn't he able to stop himself from killing Lennon in the months before as he said he almost did? He's a sociopath. And since when do they ever change their behavior?
