Andrew Koenig dead: Body of missing 'Growing Pains' star found
February 25, 2010 -- The body of missing 'Growing Pains' star Andrew Koenig has been found. According to Us Weekly Magazine police stated that they found the body in a "vast urban park" in Canada. Police have been searching for Koenig since February 18th after his family reported him missing when he didn't return home from Vancouver.
Police claim the body was found around noon in Canada's Stanley Park, a location the police have been searching regularly since Koenig's disappearance. The discover comes one day after Koening's parents Walter and Judith flew out to Vancouver to ask for assistance in the effort to locate their son.
Andrew's father and former 'Star Trek' actor Walter Koenig admitted that his son had been battling depression and sounded distant the last time they spoke on February 9th. "You are loved, you count, you matter," Koenig's mother, Judy Koenig, said at a press conference on Wednesday. When asked if Koenig might try to hurt himself, Walter Koenig replied, "I think it's almost impossible not to explore that as one of the options."
Koenig is know mostly for his role as Richard "Boner" Stabone on the popular 80's family series 'Growing Pains.' Koenig character played best friend to family trouble maker Mike Seaver (Kirk Cameron.)
"He was much loved and he had much to contribute to this world," said Koening's mother. "Please respect our privacy," she ask media telling them this would be the only statement made on the death of her son.
"The Vancouver police department extends our sympathies to the Koenig family and their friends," said Police spokesperson.
"This is so sad," said Cleveland resident Jana Dixon.
