An autopsy on the body of 32-year-old actress Brittany Murphy was completed yesterday. However, authorities will not know the exact cause of death for four to six weeks, when toxicology tests are completed.
According to Reuters, the Los Angeles coroner's office said that the body showed no signs of trauma and the LAPD reported that no foul play was suspected. However, in recent years Murphy had shown up in public with a considerably emaciated figure, denying rumors of eating disorders and cocaine use. This past behavior has led to speculation on her cause of death.
The actress, best known for her roles in such films as Clueless and Sin City, and her voice work on the animated sitcom King of the Hill, suffered full cardiac arrest last Sunday morning. Despite frantic attempts by Murphy's mother Sharon, who discovered Brittany passed out in the shower of her Hollywood Hills home, and the actress' husband, Simon Monjack, she was never revived.
TMZ reports that "a slew of prescription drugs" were found in Murphy's home, including medications to prevent seizures, anxiety, hypertension, and diabetes. However, no illegal drugs were found.
Murphy's death has been publicly mourned on Twitter by celebrity friends and colleagues such as Ashton Kutcher, Rose McGowan and Kathy Najimy. Kutcher referred to Murphy, his former girlfriend, as "a little piece of sunshine." Najimy added, "I love you so much Brittany and always will."
