Sad news from Salt Lake City. Kim Peek, the man who inspired the creation of Dustin Hoffman's character in the film "Rain Man" has died from a heart attack.
This news comes just days after the death of 32-year-old actress Brittany Murphy from cardiac arrest. However, Kim Peek actually died one day earlier than Murphy, on December 19, 2009.
Kim Peek had an impressive photographic memory and had memorized more than 9000 books by the time of his death. Surprisingly, the savant's memory was actually improving with age.
According to Wikipedia, Kim Peek was not autistic.
Kim Peek was a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I saw him on tv and he was just unbelievable. He memorized so many things but he could not live alone or dress himself. His brain really was amazing.
