Jessica Sierra
Jessica Sierra has a lot to celebrate these days. Besides giving birth to a healthy baby boy Dec. 5, she can now say she has been sober for two years; and two years is no small feat.
Sierra’s life was never easy. Although we saw her every week on season 4 of “American Idol” poised and singing her heart out, there was an emotional struggle she was fighting all her life.
That was evident when Sierra was featured on the first season of VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew”.
On the “Somewhere in Vegas” podcast, Sierra talked about her recovery and what she had learned along the way. When it came down to the decision of being sober, Sierra commented…
“I was just tired of all this party life. I’ve done it. I did the partying at a young age. I gotten into a lot of trouble at a young age and I think I was just done with it and ready to move on with my life.”

Sierra admits Dr. Drew was a big part of her sobriety. Even after the show was over, and she relapsed, he spoke to the judge and Sierra did a mandatory year stretch at the Pasadena Recovery Center where the show was taped. She was thankful.
“I actually spoke to him a couple of days ago,” Sierra said. “He was just checking up on me after the baby was born. He is so amazing and has been on my corner, and rooting me on from the beginning. I feel really blessed to have him in my life.”
Sierra dealt with more than just alcohol and drugs while in rehab.
“The fact is I was getting loaded of much deeper issues. Drugs and alcohol weren’t my problem. My problem was me. I had a lot of issues growing up that I never faced. It was easier to get high or to get drunk in order not to deal with my problems. Once I came down from the drugs and alcohol, the problems were still there.”
“Thank God I stopped, or else I could have wound up easily like my mother who died of a heroine overdose.”

It has been two years since she has been sober and things have come into prospective. With a new baby boy to take care of, and releasing a new album coming out this spring, Sierra's prospects are looking great. Her experiences in recovery these past few years has also given her some life changing lessons.
“I think I really gotten to get to know myself and to get to know the person I really am. Not on drugs and alcohol. I really think I have grown up in the last two years.”
