Brittany Murphy's autopsy has been scheduled for today, nearly 24 hours after the devastating news of her untimely death shocked the nation. "It will be this morning sometime, but it has not started yet," says the coroner's chief investigator, Ed Winter.
However, Winter says the cause of death likely will not be announced until toxicology tests come back, which could take up to six weeks.
Murphy has been said to have died from cardiac arrest, was a diabetic, and was taking prescription medication for flu symptoms. It has only been speculation, at this point, that she had an eating disorder which may have played a role and that she may have taken too many or mixed the wrong medications which also could have played a roll in her death. It is unclear what, if any, of these were a factor in her passing.
