Tyra Banks is hopping onto the trend of plus-size models. After much ado in late 2009 over the plus-size frenzy, Banks has officially put out the word that she's on a hunt in a plus-size model search. One difference? She's only looking for teens.
"Adolescence is such an impressionable time in a young woman's life and I hope this contest helps teen girls discover their own beauty from the inside out."
She's not only seeking to set an example for teens. Tyra is also planning to tackle what she believes to be a huge misunderstanding about what being a "plus-size model" really is and change the way its viewed by society.
Only accepting applicants with a size 12 - 20 physique, Tyra hopes to change the "negative connotation" plus-size models garner and transform the term through her new show.
"I've always felt it was my mission to expand the narrow perceptions of beauty," she added to Us magazine.
"Through America's Next Top Model, True Beauty and The Tyra Show, I challenge industry and universal standards by featuring and celebrating non-traditional beauty, and stressing that true beauty is both inside and out."
Other hopefuls setting out to transform the "narrow-minded fashion industry" include current plus-size model Crystal Renn, who's penned her experience in her own book, and was recently featured in V Magazine's "Size" issue.
