While other So You Think You Can Dance Fans are busy looking for the famous SYTYCD flash that happened on this week's episode, other just-as-intelligent viewers are talking Krump.
After contestant Russell Ferguson appeared on the show auditioning via the unique, music dance style, fans blogged about the audition: "What dance was Russell Ferguson doing on So You Think You Can Dance?"
Nope. Ferguson wasn't angry or flipping. He was indulging in Krump, which is actually more of an acronym that a word. Krump stands for "Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise" and represents the safe haven that dance provided youth against gang life.
But for Ferguson, the Krumper who hopes to make it all the way, not only experiences forward passes in the hot TV show So You Think You Can Dance, the hip-hop variation has mental and physical benefits too.
Founder director Aachal Gupta of Arts in Motion says of all the classes at her studio, Krump brings in the most students.
"Krump Hopis a highly energetic dance and requires a lot of stamina. The dance form is also a good option for those wanting to burn off calories," she adds.
Krumping delves deep into the self to ignite extreme freestyle with body jerks, hops and coordination set to rhythm.
Gupta says the dance is beneficial for burning calories and staying emotionally fit.
"People feel it is an aggressive dance but really its intended as an expression of anger or a release of pent-up emotion from the struggles of life through fast, powerful, exaggerated, and dramatic moves."
