At 29-years-old, Allison Baver works out 8 hours a day, seven days a week to stay primed for her role on the Women's Winter Olympics team. As a world champion speed skater, Baver is also the face of Secret's "Fear of Nothing" ads.
After ranking third in the world during the 2005-2006 seasons, Baver went on to win her first national championship in 2007.
A mere two years later, Baver collided with her teammate Katherine Ruetter during a 2009 race in Sofia, Bulgaria and suffered multiple fractures in her leg. With doubts about her career on the line, Baver amped up her workouts and rehabbed her way back on the ice with 8-hour daily workouts and a heart-heavy commitment. Her first rehabilitation challenge consisted of four-hour workouts - Picking marbles up off the floor.
Of her fall, Allison told Muscle & Fitness magazine, it's easier than you think to fall on ice.
"Actually, our blades are made to only go left," the Reading, PA native told the mag. "They're bent so when you lean at that extreme angle, there's more blade on the ice. I sharpen my blades every day with a diamond stone to. 1.1 mm. If you take a piece of hair and split it 10 times, that's the edge we're skating on. So if there's debris on the ice, you can fall really easily."
While Allison and her teammates are taught to fall graciously to avoid disaster, she says "accidents happen" on the ice and it helps to have a strong body to counter the possibilities.
"I do one-leg exercises and fast footwork in the skating position more than traditional squats. I need a lot of hip and knee strength as well as ankle stability."
She also says her ideal mate must be able to match her athletic prowess. For Allison, his legs can't be smaller than hers and while she never minds a yoga date from time to time, she also likes to put on a pair of sexy heels for the taking. Other things she looks for in a mate? Good eyebrows and clean shoes.
