In a recent article from NBC News Correspondent Adrienne Mong, the question of why China isn't obsessed with Michelle Obama is addressed.
Li Xin, a former international editor of a Chinese financial magazine which NBC's Mong says has profiled Hillary Clinton but not Michelle Obama doesn't cover people as much as they cover news.
"Chinese media coverage will pay more attention to substance – what will make a difference to policy toward China rather than who [the Obamas are as people]."
But why? One of the reasons behind the supposed disinfatuation with the First Lady is her looks.
"I think Chinese people find her a little scary," Mong quoted one 30-year-old Beijing female as saying. "She’s not that attractive to us."
International editor Li added in her interview with Mong, "Michelle Obama is seen as feminine in the U.S., but in China the perception of beauty is very different."
Adding, "The Chinese standard would maybe prefer someone softer, more petite. She’s so strong and independent and tough. [I’ve heard] from some co-workers and friends, they don’t see her as pretty and don’t understand why she was on the cover of Vogue U.S. (shown left)"
While celebrities like Jessica Simpson seek to define what "beauty" is in different cultures, First Lady Michelle Obama keeps fans abreast to what she feels makes her beautiful - Including early AM workouts and spending time with family.
"One of the things I always talk about is exercise," the 44-year-old mom of two said while campaigning last year. When interviewed by People magazine, she said her workouts start at 4:30 a.m., last 90 minutes and happen at least three times a week."

How interesting and this is coming from women who are dwarf type, succumb to their mens, and whom eat cats. I guess they do not relate to her.
May I add more give up their children if they are girl babies. have bad teeth, tape their feet to keep them small and walk around in rice fields with a bucket tied to their heads. Wow good examples of women.
IT's true, I lived in Japan, and with China, as with a lot of Asian countries, they think White is best. White skin. They bleach there skin to make Europeans...so I can see why they are not keen on her. It's a deep culture issue. Asian (many friends here) have to have the right shape head, the right eyes, round... thin, small boned. It's just the way it is....
How sad. Mrs. O is a symbol of American women of all ethnic backgrounds in our country. I do hope there are a few Chinese women (in China)who see a role model in Michelle.
First Lady Michelle Obama is FINE !! Tall, firm, shapely body w/ a nice BUTT and a passionate face.
I'll take her any day over the average Chiney woman w/ the body of a 12y/o girl (No womanly, sexual development - T&A!).
African blood produces hips, breast and especially BUTT! (just the way most men perfer). Black blood also generates emotional/sexual passion in males and females.
That inherent passion no doubt helped the earliest humans (Blacks) proliferate the beginnings of every other race & ethnicity, including CHINESE WOMEN.
Yes, asian women ARE more docile and submissive than Black women, and in some context that can be a plus. However, in my bed it's a minus.
The attraction or femininity of Black women is not validated by what asian women think of them.
It is affirmed by all the men who want to love & procreate with them and the children they lovingly mother.
That's TRUE. But what has she done?!? Mrs. Obama knows about race and perspective of it. That was her college thesiss
Mr. J. that's such a generalization as I know many Asian women and lived there. Some are, some aren't -- just like women of color. It's the personality that makes the woman. Also, every black women does not have a butt. but it's a trait of some black women. (black woman speaking)
the chinese possess both wisdom, and patience. when they exercise the margin call on our indebteness perhaps michelle can learn to use a wok. anyone care for some stir-fried portugese water terrier?
