Lindsay Lohan, who was released from rehab Aug. 24 after spending three weeks there following a 13-day jail stint, blames her drug use and personal problems on her "chemically imbalanced" dad and hanging with the wrong crowd.
"I think if anyone should be looked at medically it's him [dad Michael Lohan]," Lindsay, 24 tells the Oct. 2010 issue of Vanity Fair. "He has such a big chemical imbalance at this point because of all the things he's done to himself.
"The worst part of it is you turn around and you see your dad crying and normally you'd be, like, happy that your father's there. But then he has to go and do an interview right after."
'I WANTED TO BE LIKE BRITNEY'
Lindsay says she had no structure growing up and blames it on her absentee dad (Michael and Lindsay's mom Dina are divorced).
When Lindsay first moved to L.A. to pursue her acting career, she says, “it was very go-go-go and I had a lot of responsibility." The hard partying and boozing began when she had too much money and free time and no structure or boundaries.
She recalls: "The second I didn’t have [structure] anymore—I was 18, 19—with a ton of money and no one really here to tell me that I couldn’t do certain things … And I see where that’s gotten me now, and I don’t like it.”
Lindsay fell into nonstop parting, drinking and recreational drug use because she idealized celebrities such as Britney Spears, who themselves had issues with depression, alcohol and drug abuse.
"[It's] really scary and sad [that tabloids were my main news source] and I would look up to those girls...the Britneys and whatever," Lohan recounts. "And I would be like, I want to be like that.
"So many people around me would say they cared [about me] for the wrong reasons. A lot of people were pulling from me, taking from me and not giving. I had a lot of people that were there for me for, you know, the party."
'I ONLY DABBLED IN DRUGS; I'M NOT AN ADDICT'
Still, Lindsay, who was sentenced to 90 days in jail in July 2010 for parole violations stemming from her 2007 drunk-driving arrest, insists she's not a drug addict.
“I’ve never abused prescription drugs," she says. "I never have—never in my life. I have no desire to. That’s not who I am. I’ve admitted to the things that I’ve done—to, you know, dabbling in certain things and trying things ’cause I was young and curious and thought it was like, O.K., ’cause other people were doing it and other people put it in front of me. And I see what happened in my life because of it."
Lohan, who once had a promising Hollywood career with hits such as Parent Trap (1998) and Mean Girls (2004), is confident she can have a successful career.
"I know that I’m a damn good actress," she says. "And I know that in my past I was young and irresponsible—but that’s what growing up is. You learn from your mistakes.

"I didn't have any structure," she says. "In the beginning, I had structure, and then I lost it.
