Leona Lewis: "American portions" resulted in 13-pound weight gain

Success came at a price for singer Leona Lewis who reportedly packed on 13 pounds while recording her new record.

Close friends and family watched the star come under scrutiny after "binging" on an American diet of starchy carbs and Thai takeout.

According to UK's Now Magazine, the 24-year-old Lewis showed signs of weight gain as early as June this summer and the more she turned to American "comfort foods" the higher her dress size.

Reports from the magazine say while she was busy recording her new album "Echo" and "missing her friends and family", Lewis would have bad food ordered to the studio.

"In LA she used to binge on curry, macaroni cheese and her favorite Thai takeaway, all delivered to the studio," a source close to the star told Now. "American portions are so big it's hard not to put on weight and Leona loves every kind of food that's bad for you."

At the close of the summer, the singer had bumped her way into a size US12 dress, weighing 13 pounds heavier than before. "The label bosses weren't happy with her weight gain and told her to shape up for her album launch," a source told Now creating motivation for Leona to lean up.

Reportedly losing the weight she gained during her recording, Leona appeared to be a leaner version of her former self at the ASICS "Echo" album celebration. Wearing a cinched, strapless purple dress strapped in at the waist, Lewis was accompanied by other fit celebs like Ciara Harris and Dancing with the Stars' Derek Hough.
