Great American Smokeout 2009: Celebrities who quit smoking

In lieu of celebrities and supermodels who are often caught by the shutterbug puffing up and smoking, there is a chain of celebs who have gone public about their decision to cut back or quit smoking all together.

Most recognized is supermodel Christy Turlington, who used to smoke two packs a day, until her father died of lung cancer.

Turlington, who is a big supporter for the Great American Smokeout, told World Entertainment News in a past interview, "I stress to young girls that weight loss shouldn't be their main concern. I tell them to look around and notice people smoking, as there are as many large people smoking as thin, but I know myself how difficult it is to give up and I think smokers deserve compassion and respect," she told the press.

Other celebrities like actor Ben Affleck and People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive Johnny Depp quit smoking for their familes. 

"I’ve been cutting down on my smoking," Depp said in a recent interview with the press. "Instead of having a cigarette, I'll swim or some do other healthy activity!"
