Ashton Kutcher, currently the star of Nikon commercials, is just one of the many celebrities that have started using twitter.com to aid in supporting their charities. Kutcher had made a bet with CNN that if he got one million twitter followers before CNN then he would donate 10,000 mosquito nets to Malaria No More. Larry King dismissed his claims saying there was no way that Kutcher could beat out the entire network of CNN. King stated "Kutcher, you're playing out of your league. CNN will bury you."
Kutcher had the last laugh. Receiving over one million twitter followers first he beat out CNN but before the contest ended had promised to donate the 10,000 mosquito nets to Malaria No More anyway. Kutcher seemed to ignite the passions for celebrities and charity with twitter.
Soon after Kutcher and CNN went to battle, Hugh Jackman decided to run a twitter competition for charity. The Wolverine star donated $100,000 split between two charities; charity:water and Operation of Hope.
Recently, another celebrity has started twittering for charity. Kathy Ireland, former supermodel and actress, is trying to raise money for a good cause. She seeks to raise $1,000,000 for Providence Hall High School located in Santa Barbara, California. The charity fundraiser started out in to match the contribution of Elizabeth Taylor who donated $100,000 to Providence Hall. Randy Inman, a Source for Associated Content, spoke with Kathy Ireland via twitter regarding this project and how it escalated from $100,000 to one million dollars in this article. Ireland will get $10 per twitter follower to donate to Providence Hall.
Twitter is an excellent way for celebrities to get the word out about the charities they support. Whether it is a local school or a global charity the celebrities that support them can raise money for worthy causes using a simple social networking system that allows you to tweet a message in 140 characters or less.

I not a Twitter-er, but it is good to know people are using it to help charities.
It's amazing isn't it? I don't really get the whole Twitter thing, but I use it anyway. :-)
