Annie Duke with Rivers' Impersonator for Charity Poker Tournament
“Sucking Out on the Rivers” charity poker event hosted by Annie Duke and Joan Rivers Impersonator Frank Marino was a hit in Las Vegas, NV this week. The poker charity tournament which cost $200 for a buy-in raised $20,000 for Refugee’s International, a charity dedicated to helping displaced people and promoting solutions to solve the displacement situations around the globe.
Many big league poker players came out to join Annie Duke for the charity poker tournament, including some who appeared in drag dressed up as Duke’s rival Joan Rivers. Rafe Furst, Andy Bloch, John Pappos from Poker Players Alliance, Jeffrey Pollack and Tony Hseih from Zappos were just a few of the big names who turned up to play poker for Refugee’s International.
According to Annie Duke’s blog, Phil Hellmuth Jr. (11 time World Series of Poker champion) could not make it to the charity poker tournament but when she saw him the next day he donated $400 to Refugee’s Int’l to make up for it. Hellmuth donates to numerous charities including Doctors without Borders, the TASER foundation, Habitat for Humanity and Heifer International, to name just a few.
Duke came in 5th place in the tournament while Andy Block came in second, it is unclear who took first place but the real winner of this event was Refugee’s International. Annie Duke raised almost half a million dollars when she was on NBC’s The Celebrity Apprentice for Refugee’s International and other charities combined.
