Remembering Farrah Fawcett

Farrah Fawcett in Charlie's Angel's 1976

It is with sadness that we at Celebrity Charity Examiner report that Farrah Fawcett passed away today after a long, drawn out battle with cancer. Mrs. Fawcett has been known for her many roles as an actress in hollywood and also for her charity support over the years.

Tonight on 20/20 Barbara Walters interview with Ryan O'Neal will air on ABC. Ryan O'Neal has been Farrah Fawcett's life partner and has been with her every step of the way as she struggled with cancer. It was recently announced that he had proposed to Farrah for the third time and that she finally accepted. He was hoping that she would hang on to life long enough for them to make their marriage official.

Farrah Fawcett was most commonly known from her role as one of "Charlie's Angels" but she was also in Logan's Run, Dr.T & The Women, The Apostle and many other films. Farrah's charity work involved activism in organizations that benefit victims of domestic violence. Being a survivor of domestic violence herself, her goal was to help other victims.

She has served on the board of the National Advisory Council for The National Domestic Violence Hot-line, which is one of the leading non-profit organizations in America benefitting the victims of domestic violence. She also participated in the Humanitarian Awards in Media events and participated in anti-domestic violence discussions.

Although most of her charity work has been with domestic violence victims she was also actively involved with The Cancer Society. She was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006 and began treatment shortly thereafter. Treatment included chemotherapy and surgery. She had believed she was cancer a short four months after the surgery on her 60th birthday.

In May of 2007, Farrah Fawcett, brought a small digital video camera with her to a doctor's visit. She was told at the appointment that her cancer had come back. She sought out different opinions on what could be done to treat the cancer and documented it for the public.

In April of 2009 it was reported that Farrah was back in the hospital and the word spread was that the cancer that started out as anal cancer had metastasized and spread to her liver. A two hour documentary called Farrah's Story which was filmed by Farrah and her friend Alana Steward aired on May 15, 2009 on the NBC network. It was then picked up and aired on MSNBC, Bravo and Oxygen.

This morning at the Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, CA, Farrah Fawcett succumbed to the cancer she had been fighting. By her side when she passed was Ryan O'Neal and Alana Stewart. Farrah was 62 years old.

We here at Celebrity Charity Examiner wish to express our deepest condolences to the family of Ms. Fawcett.

I feel so sorry for Farrah's family and friends. There are no words that anyone can say to bring you peace. I do believe if ever an angel was here on earth it was Farrah. I am just sorry God needed her more and had to take her so quickly.
