In the MotorTrend.com "Fast and Famous" video below, Jay Leno looks for a "hidden racetrack" around Los Angeles to wind up the incredible Mercedes SLS AMG 6.3 supercar, and finds it. The legendary car guy powers the 571-horsepower SLS through the hills while a bevy of cameras capture every sight and sound - both in, and outside the gull-winged car. Mr. Leno explains in the video that he is a fan of the film short Rondezvous, in which a car is filmed racing through Paris. (Watch Rondezvous short film)
The looks of the SLS may be polarizing, but there is no question that the 196-MPH top speed and and 0-60 times well under 4 seconds put it in rare air. Mr. Leno says the car, which recalls the 1954 Gullwing Mercedes, "sounds wonderful, and this double-clutch gearbox is amazing".
The famous talkshow host cruises down Mulholland Drive, hits Laurel Canyon Road, turns onto Sunset Boulevard, Beverly Drive, then to Coldwater Canyon. He describes the route as a "great racetrack hidden in Los Angeles area nearly as good as Nurburgring".
