Another season of American Idol has come and gone, but Adam Lambert's rock star makeup is an inspiration to hordes of screaming girls (and guys) across the nation.
The Idol runner up sported a style all his own from the beginning of the season to the end. His look was edgy, creative, and glam rock inspired. Lambert didn't veer far from his trademark smokey eyeliner, bronzed skin and lip-balmed lips. However, Idol makeup artist Mezhgan Hussainy had the opportunity to soften his look during disco week. The final result: he looked polished, smart and very handsome. Sometimes less is definitely more.
Hussainy revealed her makeup staples for this softer look on the American Idol blog:
Step 1: Moisturize. Dermalogica Active Moisture hydrated the skin and smoothed out any rough patches.
Step 2: Primer. Luminous {me} by Mezhgan primer helped the foundation stay in place.
Step 3: Foundation. Bronze Espesial foundation by Gerda Spillman was the key to evening out Lambert’s skin tone.
Step 4: Concealer. Dermacolor concealer helped hide any remaining scars or blemishes. Under eye circles were hidden with Amazing Cosmetics concealer in Tan.
Step 5: Set. Temptu silicone foundation was airbrushed over the face to smooth out the skin and add contouring (a darker shade was used for contouring).
Step 6: Powder. Makeup Forever HD powder set the entire look and eliminated shine.
Step 7: Bronzer. {me} by Mezhgan bronzer was dusted all over the face to warm up the skin.
Step 8: Eyes. Curled lashes and black mascara opened the eye. Eyes were lined with NARS Bali Taupe shadow and a thin angled eyeshadow brush.
Step 9: Lips. Kiehl’s tinted lip balm moisturized and added a hint of color.
And there you have it – the best way to get the look of one of your favorite rising rock stars.

I did love the look when he performed Tracks of My Tears and Play That Funky Music, Change is Gonna Come, and One. I love Adam, but I agree he looks best with less make-up. As Paula said: "I like the clean look; you look very classy and handsome."
lol I wonder if they will sign him to a Covergirl contract for guyliner lol
I vote for less is more. I think if he put less during the top 2, more people would have voted for him. In the top 2, his gay-look was at 100% full-throttle. He went from a normal-looking man, to goth, to rock-look, into 100% gay look at the end. Somewhat turned me off. I can only dream to see him with less make-up today. I thought he walked around town with no make-up. Turns out that he walked around town with full gay make-up 100% of the time. Seeing him today with less make-up will probably never now that he declared himself as gay. Wishing for a real man-looking Lambert someday with no make-up.
What I like is that he pulls off a variety of looks from subtle to full-out glam.
tij: Funny, I could have sworn it was a singing contest, not a "who can look more manly" contest.
Thank you for the tips. Adam should be Jockey or Hanes model for underware. He is also good to be in GQ Mag. Adam can also be known as Sexiest Man alive. After all Adam is HOT and SEXY regardless of his Orientation. He's a class Act. I also agree less make up that looks natural is better for Adam, Less eyeLiner is so much better, less feminine looks lol.. Adam I hope you are reading this :) Truly Adam needs to look natural, he is already handsome doesn't need a whole lot. It's what you called a Touch Up!!
I agree with one comment here, he could be CoVerGuy guyLiner, they can start up a Liner for a guy u know... hehehe
He looked the best in his first audition. He was natural looking. He obviously dyes his eyelashes and brows, but I don't think he had eyeliner on. If he did, it was subtle. Don't like the hair slicked back. JMO. But he likes variety in his look. I agree with the comment that less is more. There's no reason to pile on the makeup. Actually the extremely dark hair only enhances complextion flaws. His natural blond hair with full allotment of freckles would be interesting for a change. But afterall, like the man says, it's about the music.
I thought the same, he looks the best in his first addition.
I like make-up on a man. I think it's sexy.
I have liked all the different looks of Adam Lambert and I find it refreshing to have such a different wrapper on my eye candy. I also think that by Adam changing his looks for different events, songs, genre of music he will stay current longer.
with or without make-up, he's so easy in the eyes.
I liked all the looks of Adam, but the look he had at the end, softer, and oh so sexy, I thought was the very best. Everything was spot on, so congrats to his makeup artist there on the finale. Absolutely fabulous look.
