The Late Late Show
The memoir uses Ferguson’s charm and cheekiness
Ferguson developed a fascination with all things American at an early age. His parents helped: mom assisted her aspiring astronaut son send a letter to NASA and his father later took him on mind-blowing trip to visit relatives in New York. Ferguson dropped out of school at 16 and followed various paths as a punk rock drummer, a bartender, an apprentice electrician, a modern dancer and a stand-up comic. He writes about his struggle with alcohol and finding sobriety. His breakout role was on
The Drew Carey Show. One major triumph came when
CBS launched a search for a host for The Late Late Show. Ferguson was selected.
Ferguson’s view on becoming a citizen
He became a citizen in January 2008 and even headlined the
2008 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. The book is published by
HarperCollins. “I didn’t flee a dictator or swim an ocean to be an American like some do. I just thought long and hard about it. I looked at the evidence of my life and gratefully signed up,” says Ferguson. A resident of Los Angeles, he also is the author of
Between the Bridge and the River.
