Orphans see Madonna as 'God'

With a name like Madonna and a boyfriend named Jesus, perhaps it came as no surprise to Madonna that a Malawi orphan said that Madonna was their God when she visited the orphanage where her son David Banda lived in Malawi. Madonna is in Malawi to visit the orphanage and to allow her daughter Mercy James to meet her birth father. According to Us Magazine, an orphan girl compared Madonna to God because of the help the orphanage has been given by Madonna's charity Raising Malawi.

Madonna's charity has helped to fund five orphanages in Malawi, raising the living standards of the orphans there. The charity solicits donations for the children of Malawi, and Madonna matches each dollar that is donated. The world's fourth-poorest country, Malawi has one of the highest HIV rates in the world with 14 percent of the population infected. This has led to about 2,000,000 children in need, many of whom have lost their parents to AIDS.
