
While Madonna has gotten a lot of press lately because of her difficult adoptions of two children from Malawi, there are a number of other celebrities who have adopted children from Africa. Some have gotten as much press as Madonna, but some have adopted their children quietly and without inviting the paparazzi to tag along and photograph every step of the process.
Mary-Louise Parker adopted a daughter from Africa in 2007. The girl, Ash, was born in Ethiopia.
Brooke Smith, an actress known for roles in Silence of the Lambs and Grey's Anatomy, adopted a girl from Ethiopia in 2008.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt adopted a baby girl, Zahara, from Ethiopia in 2005.
Emma Thompson adopted an older African child, a son who was a teenage refuge from Rwanda when he was adopted by the actress.

Victoria and David Beckham have been rumored to be interested in adopting a daughter from Africa to add to their family of three boys.
Angelina Jolie has mentioned adopting another child from Africa to add to her army of six children.
Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, friends of Madonna, have been the subject of African adoption rumors that have Madonna trying to convince them to adopt from Malawi.
Joely Richardson is said to be considering an African adoption after witnessing the desperate need of Malawi's orphans.
