Romeo the cat: a love story

She was looking for a friendly cat to love. He was a somewhat tubby tabby looking for a nice lap to curl up in. They first met in a Bethesda parking lot at an adoption event for fosters from the Montgomery County Humane Society. The cat, who was then named Bacardi, was in a van waiting to meet potential adopters, and he so did not want to be there. And that attitude was the very thing that first captured the heart of his new person.

The person, Jennifer, had lots of questions for Bacardi’s foster mom: “Will he curl up in my lap?” “Will he like me?” The foster mom answered every question patiently, explaining that this was a sweet, easygoing cat who enjoyed taking naps and gazing out the window. In the end, Jennifer took the tabby home and renamed him Romeo. And so their love story began.

Now, just over two years later, Jennifer says that Romeo is a source of “joy, love, and good times” for her. He greets her at the door when she comes home, and he does indeed like to curl up in her lap. They both enjoy taking naps, and Jennifer is quite the proud cat parent, with her handy supply of frequently updated photos of Romeo. Romeo’s sweet disposition has also won him a place in the hearts of Jennifer’s friends and family. As she says, “Everybody loves Romeo!”

So Jennifer and Romeo are living happily ever after together, she with her feline friend to love and he with a special lap to nap in.

The end.
