During a top match in Croatia last week, soccer goalie Ivan Banovic left protecting his goal to rescue a cat that had wandered onto the field, the BBC reports. That didn't set well with the referee.
Banovic took the cat off the pitch and placed it in a safe area behind the scoreboard but the referee then gave him a yellow penalty card him for leaving the field without permission.
Fans reportedly were not happy with the referee’s decision and booed him during the rest of the game while they – even the opposing team – cheered on Banovic.
Banovic may have earned the devotion of cat lovers but unfortunately his team still lost 1-0.
