Tucson designer encourages Catholics to get 'mantled'

Tucson graphic designer Andrew Starbuck envisions all Catholics one day being “mantled.”

Inspired by Saint Faustina’s prayer to the Blessed Mother that she “cover my soul with your virginal mantle and grant me the grace of purity of heart, soul and body”, Starbuck created the Mantled Catholic Clothing company to help Catholics unapologetically share the beauty of their faith.  According to Starbuck, “every piece is a fearless statement that is contrary to the society we live in and the culture of death that we fight.”

Mantled's "Silent Tee"

A Tucson native, the 26-year old has worked as a graphic designer in his family’s business, Starbuck Design, for nine years. After designing for thousands of companies, schools, and churches, he felt a need to create a truly Catholic line of clothing that is theologically bold. “My hope,” Starbuck states, “is that these tees encourage the people wearing them to explore their faith more fully and share it with others.”

The Mantled line, launched at the recent Tucson March for Life and currently available for purchase at Starbuck Design, or online at www.mantledcatholicclothing.com, includes original designs by Starbuck, and powerful messages of faith. One bold tee dubbed the "Silent Tee" reads, “Silent Today, Silenced Tomorrow”, and pictures a skull made entirely of babies in the womb marked with a red X. On the back is a powerful pro-life message.

Unique to this line of clothing is a scapular, printed inside the front and back of every garment, including an icon of Mary and her scapular promise.

Tucson teen Paige Dowler was an instant fan of the new designs. “I think the Mantled line is a great way to spread the faith," says Dowler.  "What a conversation piece!  And I know that I’m not only showing the Glory of my God, but I'm being protected by the cleverly designed scapular inside.  Very unique, very Catholic!”

Starbuck plans to expand the line, and hopes the shirts will soon be available for sale at Trinity, Sonoran Saints, and Father Kino’s Corner in Tucson.   “I have about a dozen other designs ready to be produced and I have a schedule of releasing the new shirts on the website over the next couple of months,” says Starbuck.

“There are a lot of Catholics in the U.S., and I’d like to see every one of them ‘mantled’".

Fabulous & Heavenly Inspired Idea. In These Days Of Living In What Some Have Dubbed The "Post-Christian" Era Of The Western World & The United States, It Is Beyond Encouraging To See Others Speak The Truth, In Trust - Willing To Face All Consequences. The Early Church Who Bled & Died In The Roman Colesium Rather Than Deny Their Faith Are Cheering All Of The Church Militant On!!

People who would take the time to respond so bitterly are just another example of how anything Catholic can irritate antichrist.

The gates of hell will never prevail against the church Jesus established, so begone satan!

What interesting responses to your article. I am so happy we live a country (whether you agree or now with the issues and responses to them) that empowers us with the right to free speech and religion.

I love the shirts, particularly that of Mary and the Ark of the New Covenant. What a blessing that this local artist has applied his gifts toward such a profound cause! Thank you for writing about him -- I had no idea!

Great article on a wonderful evangelization concept. Thank you for sharing this. I think I am going to order a T-shirt. It is official okay to "bash" Catholics it seems. We need not cower in our faith- as CoM says, "the gates of hell cannot prevail against the church Jesus established"
