February is I Love NYC Pets Month

Would you shake your booty and go adopt Boody already?

Everyone knows that while February may be the shortest month, it’s chock full of special days like Groundhog’s Day, President’s Day, and Valentine’s Day. Locally, New York City also goes to the dogs with the annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. But the city gives an extra special nod to fuzzy valentines of the feline as well as canine variety all month long with its 4th annual I Love NYC Pets Month.

The Mayor’s Alliance for New York City’s Animals, a coalition of more than 160 animal rescue groups and shelters working to turn New York City into a no-kill community, knows that there’s no better time than in the cold of winter to warm your heart up with a new kitty (or canine) companion. That’s why they’ve organized special adoption events to be held throughout the month throughout the five boroughs.

Cupid may have wings, but adorable adoptables will be wheeling their way into a neighborhood near you courtesy of the North Shore Animal League America (NSAL). The NSAL is sharing its adoption van with area rescue groups and shelters to make it even easier for you to make a feline love match.

This year, TD Bank has signed on as the official sponsor for the month-long campaign. Eight adoption events, in conjunction with local rescue groups will be held at bank branches in the five boroughs.

Adoption events are also scheduled at a variety of retail locations. Click here for a full listing of events, participating organizations, and locations.

Animal Care & Control of New York City (AC&C) is extending its adoption hours to 7:30 p.m. every day at each of its shelters in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. Fall in love with a full-grown feline at an AC&C shelter and they’ll waive adoption fees.

Not ready to add a furry friend to your household? Why not consider volunteering at a shelter or fostering a feline?

Look closely…are you sure that’s snow falling and not fur wafting over the city? Happy Furrbruary!
