Carrie Underwood and Tony Bennett will perform on Blue Bloods season premiere

Via press release, it has been announced that Grammy-award winning artists Tony Bennett and Carrie Underwood will be performing on the season two premiere of CBS's Blue Bloods on Friday, September 23, 2011. The episode will air at 10 PM EST/PST.

Underwood and Bennett will appear on the show as guest performers for a fundraiser that characters Frank Reagan and Erin Reagan-Boyle are attending for a newly appointed mayor. These characters are played by Tom Sellek and Bridget Moynahan, respectively. The duo will be performing the pop standard "It Had to be You" that appears on Bennett's upcoming Duets II album, which drops September 30th.

“Having musical legend Tony Bennett and the hugely talented country music star Carrie Underwood perform on our show is a true gift.  The talent that they bring together is amazing,” said Executive Producer Leonard Goldberg.  “We’re looking forward to an exciting second season premiere with a story that is certain to provoke debate, and are thrilled that Tony and Carrie can be a part of it.”

Both artists have experienced massive success during their respective careers. Bennett, a 15-time Grammy and multiple Emmy-award winner, has charted every decade since the 1950's (his career spans 60 years). Duets II will be the follow up to Duets, which was released in 2006 and became his best-selling release to date. This new album will help commemorate his 85th birthday. In addition to Carrie, Amy Winehouse, Michael Buble, Aretha Franklin, John Mayer, and Queen Latifah make appearances on the record.

Speaking of Underwood, she is a five-time Grammy award winner and has also scored multiple ACM and CMA honors, among so many others. Since arriving on the scene back in 2005 after her American Idol win, she has amassed 13 #1 singles on both the Mediabase and Billboard charts and 13 millioin in album sales. Perhaps, 13 is her lucky number, as her latest set, Play On, which dropped back in 2009, has sold 2 million units. She is currently hard at work on her fourth studio album which is speculated to drop later this year or early 2012.

This is not the first time these two have collaborated. A few years ago, Underwood and Bennett appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, along with Josh Groban and Michael Buble, to perform a smooth and jazzy "For Once in My Life." You can check that performance out by clicking here.
