American Idol and X Factor judge, Simon Cowell is investing in the Caribbean, or trying to anyway. According to reports from The Mail Online, Cowell had hoped to spend his Christmas holiday in his new luxury hideaway in Barbados, but due to construction issues, work has been halted and it is not expected to be complete until 2011. So the feisty Cowell opted for the next-best-thing (instead of his usual villa at Sandy Lane Resort) , and rented a luxury yacht to carry his mother and a few ex-girlfriends around the Caribbean islands of Barbados, Antigua, St Barts and Grenada, at the mere rate of 1million a week. Seems the economic down-slide hasn’t affected this talent scout at all.
The dreamy island of Barbados saw a lot of celebrity action over the holiday with sparkly celebrities as Sherlock Holmes star Jude Law with Sienna Miller, Cowell and his entourage, X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, and sultry Barbadian, Rhianna.
Barbados is quickly becoming the grand dame of the Caribbean, with a new Four Seasons under construction as well as numerous opulent homes such as Simon Cowell’s. Is it possible that this island has found its niche in their acceptance of the gay/lesbian community? No suggestion intended about any of the aforementioned celeb’s preferences, just saying that not all Caribbean islands are as “open-minded” as Barbados appears to be.
American Idol Season 9 is just 12 days away, launching on Fox January 12. The looming questions are: will Simon Cowell stay with the show and if not, who will replace him? Can the acclaimed show possibly survive without him?
If we find out in the Caribbean before you do, we’ll be sure to let you know!

I wonder if the prices will go up if he invests?
Sound like a long time to build a house!
gee, and i spent the holidays on the island of long.
Didn't realize there was such interest in Barbados. Simon Cowell could probably buy most of the island if he wanted to! Interesting report, Lea Ann! Keep us informed!
With him on Barbados i'll build my mansion elsewhere. thanks for the warning. :-) St. Maarten would be my first choice in that neighborhood.
JetBlue is really thriving on its Barbados and other Caribbean routes from JFK and BOS. This is the time of the year for an island getaway, although in San Diego on Sunday it was 75+, sunny and almost like summer. Still, I envy your life. Great story Lea Ann.
This guy has $ to burn...geez. It's interesting to see how the other half lives. Or, now, the other 1 per cent.
