Susan Joyce has a great list posted at Job-Hunt.org of the top 50 employers who are using Twitter to recruit. Job seekers who are not using Twitter to network and potentially learn about opportunities are really missing out!
Not convinced that networking with strangers is good for your job hunt? READ THIS POST and maybe you'll be convinced! Still skeptical? Take a look at Stephanie Lloyd's interview with recruiter Lindsay Olson who says:
“...I’ve met numerous candidates from Twitter in-person and I have placed several candidates in positions with my clients.
Additionally, I get lots of recommendations for searches from followers on Twitter to their colleagues and contacts who may or may not be Twitter-savvy. Those placements were originally sourced from relationships I’ve built on Twitter.
If you count Twitter as the source of the relationship, I would attribute my use of Twitter to a significant increase in revenue to our search firm. I also participate in “tweet ups” when I’m traveling where I arrange a group meetings in an informal setting and in January, 2009, I spent three weeks in New York meeting candidates I’ve gotten to know first on Twitter.”
But, you say, "Twitter seems like a waste of time and I don't really know how to get started!" I have just the resource for you. Use Twitter for the job search will teach you how to choose your Twitter "handle," explain how and why you should use Twitter and really get you started with this terrific resource!
