The Financial Post reports today that LinkedIn has announced its plans to open an office in Canada, adding to its Mumbai, Sydney, the Netherlands, and Dublin international offices. With more than 60 million business users around the globe, LinkedIn has morphed from being merely a way to keep track of business contacts to the biggest business-related social networking site in the world.
The purpose of opening the LinkedIn Canada office is twofold, says Arvind Rajan, VP International:
When we think about opening up these offices, ?what we're doing is not only trying to spur membership growth and engagement in those markets, but also drive revenue opportunities to those markets.
And,
We have realized, like a lot of American companies, to be successful in Canada you really need a Canadian prescence...
Its worth noting that Rajan also mentioned Canadians on LinkedIn are more engaged than their American counterparts, spending more time on the site and for longer periods - perhaps by finding other local Canadian businesses to learn and grow from, as well as network with.
