Natashquan, QC - Quebec Innu school receives long awaited upgrade
The Uauitshitun School of Natashquan Quebec will receive renovations and expansions thanks to a 6.4 million dollar investment under Canada’s Economic Action Plan announced Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs, Chuck Strahl, today.
This project is part of a $200 million investment to new schools and renovations included in the $1.4 billion Aboriginal peoples investment under Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The Uauitshitun elementary school was expanded in 2000 and 2005 using prefabricated modules upgrading to permanent facilities in this project. The Innu First Nations will manage the projected, expected to be completed March 2011.
"Our Government is working to ensure First Nation students have access to the same educational opportunities as other Canadians," said Minister Strahl. "It is essential that First
Nations have access to healthy, safe schools that meet the demands of their communities."
