Barbara Walters is getting ready to interview reality star Kate Gosselin for her 10 Most Fascinating People of 2009 television special. The show will include Adam Lambert and Jenny Sanford and will air on ABC on December 9th. The scoop first showed up on gossipcop.com.
Reality star Kate Gosselin, has had one heck of a bumpy ride this year. This summer, the 34 year old mother of eight, filed for divorce from her husband of 10 years, Jon Gosselin, following numerous tabloid stories of his infidelities. This fall, Jon Gosselin put an end to their show in the middle of it's fifth season, effectively putting his estranged wife out of work. Jon was subsequently sued, by their employer TLC, for breach of contract. Jon quickly filed a counter lawsuit for five millions dollars.
What really makes Kate Gosselin fascinating is her erratic husband. In the early years on the show, Kate looked every bit the house bound harried mother, wearing sweat pants and little makeup. As the show became more successful and Kate branched out into book publishing and speaking engagements, her look became much more polished.
While many wonder what in the world is wrong with Jon Gosselin, the person that may have that answer is his soon to be ex-wife Kate Gosselin. In the series ending, last episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8, Jon Gosselin looks unkempt, unwashed and displaying unusual body ticks. There is a great deal of speculation that the octo-dad may be using drugs or abusing alcohol. Jon seems very stressed and uncomfortable in the interview couch.
In stark contrast, Kate looks refreshed and relaxed as she gets a little teary eyed when the producer lobs some relatively softball questions. One question, in particular speaks to the issue of whether or not Jon's new 22 year old girlfriend will be a part of her children's lives. Kate shuts that down quickly, and says that she does not see that in the future and that Jon's girlfriends are merely a symptom of the real issue.
That begs the question, what is the real issue? Jon Gosselin seems to be on a reckless path of self destruction. Ending his marriage, ending his TLC TV show and even giving Kate primary custody of their eight children. Numerous lawsuits surround him as he makes the three hour drive to his new home in a NY apartment.
Kate was right, the short lived relationship between Jon and the daughter of Kate's tummy tuck doctor is now calling Jon a compulsive liar on her twitter. While Kate Gosselin has had her share of tabloid covers this year, it is Jon Gosselin himself who is truly the most fascinating, but putting him in an interview chair would prove difficult. First of all, it would breach his much contested exclusivity contract with TLC and second of all, it seems Jon Gosselin does not know what his real issues are.
In the last episode, Jon talks about how elated he was to be free of the marriage, and how he now knows he was a blamer and is learning he has to take responsibility for his actions and grow up. He says he thinks he reverted back to being a 23 year old, because he was married and had children too soon.
The 32 year old father of eight, Jon Gosselin, may be having a midlife crisis exacerbated by falling in with the wrong sort of people. His now ex-friend Michael Lohan has done prison time, his now ex-girlfriend had drug charges as a college student and his lawyer, Mark Jay Heller was previously suspended from practicing law in NY for five years. Kate Gosselin has called Jon a follower and says she does not want to undermine anything that Jon might be going through right now.
Unsavory topics come up in relationship to Jon Gosselin, his lawyer represented a serial killer and in an audio tape released by Radaronline.com Jon rants that he put his children out there for every pedophile to see.

I think Kate has shown herself to be a survivor. Jon has shown himself to be a train wreck. I think Kate is a good choice for a Barbara Walters interview. I will definitely watch it.
Kate is going to be just fine...she feels for what Jon has done to himself, she is not putting him down to anyone or to her children.I think she should be a role model for what a real woman is...she will go out and continue to do for her children..My prayers and best wishes are to Kate and the children...i do hope that some day Jon will get help and look back and see what a web of destruction he has made.As far as his young girlfriends, he needs to put his children first and make it right with them, not Hailey.

I guess Barbara needs to change the title from fascinating to just infamous or notorious..The only thing fascinating about Kate Gosselin is that it took this long for her 15 minutes to be up..whew..finally:)I agree with the "ums"..The classy gum smacking would be a good thing to get rid of as well...No more Jon and Kate is among what I will be thankful for at my dinner table tomorrow!!By the way, she says the "ums" because she is trying to think of how she can say something clever about herself(stalling)..Which, I'm sure you've all noticed by now, is her favortie topic of conversation!!
I will definitely watch the interview. I wish Kate and the kids all the very, very best. They are so well rid of that creep. I wouldn't be surprised if he kills himself. I hope TLC goes ahead with filming "Kate Plus 8".
Go Kate!!! Your children are amazing and beautiful. I believe you will do everything you can to provide for your children. I am very sorry you are having to be a solo parenting most of the time as Jon deals with his "issues" (that could encompass a multitude of things). I know you love your children...guide them, protect them, and most of all LOVE them with everything you have(which I know you already do). Keep up the good work Kate. I feel that Kate Gosslin is a phoney. Jon is not perfect, and has made many mistakes, but he seems to be ever so much more authentic than Kate. I feel that Kate has had much to do with the problems in her family. I am especially appalled by the way Kate seems to claim to be grateful to TLC for all the recording of their lives. The children will most likely be appalled at their parents when they are old enough to learn what was happening. I believe that Jon is ultimately responsible for his own problems, but I think that Kate had a hand in his ongoing problems that keep mounting. I cannot fathom Kate becoming more an more rich with more paid interviews and appearances and possible television shows. Some feel sorry for her being a single mom -- come on! she is wealthy enough to support her kids without ever having to work like the rest of us.

This grand finale on TLC was a set up. Kate was allowed to portray herself as the long suffering, abandoned wife and single mom who just had her paycheck pulled out from under her. TLC presented Jon in the worst possible light. I'm sure they could have come up with clips of him with his children where he wasn't being quite so testy and nasty.As usual, he looked like a slob and everything he said was all about him. In one breath he says his kids come first. In the next breath he claims to be thrilled to be free of married life, which, of course would include his children. After all, they are all part of the whole package! This whole final show is an example of mommy and daddy TLC rewarding the "good,obedient child"..ie...Kate, and punishing the "rebellious, naughty child"...ie ..Jon. They showed the better side of Kate,and the worst possible side of Jon. Of course he has nobody but himself to blame for his predicaments. He will be flat broke and on his heels within 6 months.
Any chance Barbara will ask her any real, hard-hitting questions, such as: how did you get pregnant wtih sextuplets when you were hospitalized for hyperstimulation? how did you plan to support 8 kids before the TV show? Why did you solicit "love offerings" (cash) from hard working church goers when you were already in contract for a 1.2 million dollar home? Why did you exploit your children for fame and fortune at their expense?
I will never understand the people who show up just to write hateful comments about Kate Gosselin. No one hates anyone they don't know this much. The child advocates really show their true colors now that they show up to hate when the filming of the children has stopped. They seem so bitter and for no good reason. Kate Gosselin is fascinating. I would like to see just one of these haters stand up under the pressure Kate Gosselin is under and succeed . I look forward to the interview and I really am glad I found this article. The only show worth watching Kate would be committing her in a mental hospital.

I agree about the Jon and the obvious use of drugs, not just in the season finale interview, but in previous shows since the break up as well. For this reason Kate must NEVER allow him to see the children without supervision. His latest remarks about putting his kids out there for pedophiles is particularly disturbing and gives one the idea that he might indeed sell access to them for money..drug money. The fact that he gave Kate custody without any fight shows that his "Im here for my kids" bull that he spouts every 5 minutes on the shows is total rubbish. When his kids find out later that he gave them up with less of a fight than he'd give up his wallet in a hold-up, they are gonna be crushed. Those little girls will have trust issues with men for the rest of their lives and the little boys will grow up without a real male figure in their lives (since Kate has said she wont remarry) and we all know that 80% of male prison inmates grew up fatherless. Shame on you, Nancy, for bringing your profession into your opinion. It's hard to identify an addict from someone suffering from an anxiety disorder without having a conversation with the person. It seems you may have very well wasted those 20 years if you based you opinions on observation only, and not followed up with a pertinent line of questioning.
People who hate Kate are very simular to people who hate Sarah Palin. They are self loathing bitter individuals who see an accomplished woman with strong religious ties, a strong work ethic & conservative values who would never abort their child (or reduce thier number in-utero). I believe if you took all the Kate haters and put them in a room and interviewed them you'd see a very scary bunch of mal-contents with little or no moral compass, who probably have had numerous abortions and no self respect. And I'll bet if you looked at their education & careers you would find an inordinant number of high school drop outs, and unskilled laborers and welfare recipients. In other words..democrats.
Re: Rolling eyes' post- Why would a medical worker (Nancy) with 20 years experience NOT use thier professional experience to draw an opinion about drug use? She was right on with her diagnosis! I counseled teens for over 15 years and I can spot drug use a mile away as well. Jon's constant hand rubbing, darting eyes, perspiration, wild hand gestures, fast then slow speech patterns, strange baring of his teeth to emphasise a point all are obvious signs of drug use. Plus look at the people in his inner circle, Mike Lohan, Hailey Glassman, the Hellers...these are all low lifes.
yeah..i noticed that wierd thing john would do with his lips where he'd bare his upper teeth like a dog when John would get excited too. Ive see him do that alot lately. Its really creepy! and he'll get this wild look in his eyes like he's gonna explode! It's a pathetic world when the most fascinating person is a woman whose accomplishments include giving birth, being abusive to her husband and children and filing for a divorce. If that's what it takes to be fascinating, I think they're a dime a dozen. We have people fighting wars, fighting cancer, and truly being heroes in this world. Personally, I'm not a fan of Barbara Walters either.

I feel for Jon, he's made a lot of bad decisions, and now it seems that people will not let him forget what he's done and move on. Let the man live his life, and he will soon make the needed changes to go on, to care for his children and to be a friend to Kate, but if you continue to put everything he does on a magnifying glass, it will be hard for him. None of us knows how it is to be in the public eye, so let's give him some slack, but not just Jon, Kate too.

It’s unfortunate that their marriage came to an end, as I would with this on any one. I was once married and now divorced. Our marriage breakup was due to verbal abusive out rages. One can not blame Jon for losing his self esteem and drifting into rock star life style. My former spouse was on the receiving end, and I honestly regret my past actions, and take full responsibility.
If TLC's contract purportedly was with the family as a whole why doesn't the exclusivity clause apply to Kate who fell off the high road at the first turn and has been running her uneducated mouth anywhere to anyone who can be paid enough to listen ever since?

Rhoda, what has Kate accomplished? She's had 8 children and not worked since, other than a few sat. shifts when the show first came on. She was a nurse that doesnt take years and years of college. She's just sitting back getting paid off of her children. Get a REAL JOB Kate (and Jon too). Dont get me wrong Im sure 8 children is ALOT OF WORK but guess what SHE wanted those babies, she knew when she went for that 2nd pregnancy what she ws getting into tand then decided I can afford these children so i'll get a reality show.....how about getting a job!!!

Here's an actual horrid review of "EIGHT LITTLE FACES" posted on amazon.com...."I ordered Beth Carson's Multiple Blessings from Amazon last Fall and read it in only 2 days because I could not put it down. Beth is the true author of that book. So, I heard of this second book and was a little interested at first. Glad I gave it more consideration before purchasing. The first difference I noticed immediately was that Beth had no hand in authoring this book; Kate must've been jealous that she doesn't measure up to the author that Beth is. Either that or perhaps Beth wanted 50/50 split of earnings and Kate would not hear of it. Anyway, I found the book in WalMart and was able to read the whole thing in a matter of 7 minutes. I am not kidding folks, 7 minutes. Please heed warning and not purchase this "book". Kate Gosselin no more deserves to be called an author than Jon & Kate deserve to be called All American Parents."
