On Thursday, actor Robin Williams lost a $6 million dollar lawsuit against Gold Circle Films by failing to show he had a "pay or play" arrangement with the makers of the film Cop Out.
TMZ reports Judge Jeanne O'Donnell remained unconvinced that a firm deal was in place when an email from Gold Circle Films to Williams stated they "did not agree to all of the terms set forth in the Deal Memorandum."
The email combined with other unspecified evidence supported Gold Circle's claims.
Michael Holtz, attorney for the filmmakers said, "It's unfortunate that Robin Williams' attorneys insisted on pursuing this lawsuit when it never should have been filed in the first place."
He further added, "We always believed this case lacked merit, and the court obviously agreed. Based on the court's ruling, we intend to seek recovery of Gold Circle's costs and attorneys fees."
Cop Out is due for release from Warner Bros. studio on Feb. 26, 2010.
It stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan.

Wikipedia lists several lawsuits that have been filed on behalf of 'play or pay' contracts, including the movies Soldier, Superman, and Batman Forever.
Did you know? In film-making a "pay or play" deal certifies compensation for a performer if through no fault of the actor he or she is released from the contract.
