Charlie Sheen's hearing for domestic violence, which was scheduled to begin today, has been delayed until August 2, 2010 -- just as filming for the new season of Two And A Half Men is due to begin.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the attorney for the Hot Shotz actor has delayed the hearing "to allow both parties to pursue a possible plea disposition."
Meanwhile the Hollywood heartthrob will have to wait to learn his fate and begin filming for the new season of the show set to start the very next day, August 3.
On June 7, 2010, The New York Daily News reported Sheen reached a deal with Chief Deputy DA Arnold Mordkin to spend 17-30 days in jail in exchange for a plea of "no contest" to charges of domestic violence.
When a staff member refused to honor the deal that involved the actor's work release program, however, administrators quietly sat by (refusing to adhere to the arrangement) and Sheen attorneys yanked their agreement off the table.
TMZ reports that both sides continue intensive talks, but no deal has been set.
As things stand, events could turn in 2 drastically different directions.
If found guilty of a felony with no plea deal in place, the Wall Street actor could face as much as 2 years in jail for charges that include felony menacing. On the other hand, if Sheen decides to fight the charges, the judge could restrict evidence due to miranda violations and prosecutors would be left with a very weak case and not have enough evidence to go to trial.
Did you know? Two and A Half Men ended its last season as the No 1 watched sitcom in the U.S., and ranked No 3 of all syndicated shows.
