Does Frank Lautenberg have something he'd like to tell us?

Does Frank Lautenberg have something to tell us?  It seems likely.

NJ Democratic legislators are busying themselves this holiday season with a last minute attempt to tie the hands of incoming Republican governor Chris Christie. From the moment the votes were counted on Election Day, these folks have been foaming at the mouth about how “important” and “urgent” it was that this bill get passed before Jon “Speedy” Corzine leaves office.

At issue is the way in which the NJ governor deals with a potential U.S. senate vacancy.

Under the current system, the governor can appoint a replacement for the open seat or call a special election. Or both.

The new bill suddenly emphasizes the importance that the governor only appoint a member of the same political party that the departing senator was from. In our case, since 1972, that means Democrats.

Of course, the Democratic party of New Jersey has long respected the laws of the state. They do everything they can to act in ethical ways. Just ask Bob Torricelli. Torricelli, you’ll remember, was the one candidate that the state GOP seemed poised to defeat for senate in the last 3 decades. Of course, as fall began and Mr. Torricelli looked like toast, the Democratic party made sure to force him to the sidelines about a month out of the election to be replaced by, wait for it....Senator Lautenberg! Lautenberg had retired from public life, being that he was old and all, and was called back in to win a race that was all-but-lost for the Democrats.

So, you can see why the political party of the jackass would want to make sure that the laws would be changed to only allow themselves the privilege of completely changing the playing field mid-game.

A similar move was taken in the Peoples’ Republic of Massachusetts, when dear Uncle Teddy met his maker, after a full life consisting of conspiring in the Senate with the KGB to undermine President Reagan, drinking, drinking and driving, murdering a mistress by driving a car (again while drinking) off a bridge and not telling anyone about it for 24 hours, serial womanizing, enabling of other family members to rape various women and get away with it, more womanizing, more drinking, yadda yadda yadda. Democrats, after all, need to protect their open seats for more gems like Teddy and Frankie.  Actually, come to think of it, Jon "Speedy" Corzine, the "man behind the stimulus" and the "wizard of Wall Street" will be available shortly for any political appointments.

The sudden fervor and crazed obsession with completing this “very important” new law has to raise some eyebrows.

Senator Lautenberg, a young and spry 85, has even spoken of running for re-election when this term ends. Of course, he’ll be 90 years old then. Despite a stunning lack of public appearances, we are constantly assured that Mr. Lautenberg is “fighting for New Jersey families” and fully in control of both his mind and his bladder.

Why then the rush for the bill? Perhaps Senator Lautenberg has something he’d like to tell us.

William, Good job. Love the pic. Kennedy, Lautenberg, Toricelli, Corzine are all good fodder for such an article.

The door could be revolving for Corzine. I hear wind of something in the White House. A Czar perhaps. Why not, Van Jones is back. Just get him the heck out of NJ.

You need to mark all your articles as opinion. You are not reporting. You are writing op-ed. If you are going to use a forum to blog, you should mark it as such and not pretend to be actually reporting with any level of objectivity at all.

What do you expect from a hard-core right wing...nut? All the GOP in NJ can do is make childish remarks about people and provide no basis or substantiation for their comments. SO let me respond in kind: Willy Hughe-jass just doesn't like democrats. So let me guess moron, you don't think Obama was born in the US, you think he's a terrorist with a plot to destroy the US from the inside and you think like so many of your idiot friends that we should send all the Mexicans home. This article is ridiculous - there's no substance to it. Frank Lautenberg is not only spry, he's a hell of a lot brighter than you. Complain about him all you want, but there's no smoking on airlines because of him, there's no smoking in most public buildings because of him. there's a public transportation infrastructure because of him, there are safety laws for firefighters and police officers because of him, there are soldiers who were mis-treated by the Bush admin who now get to go to college on the GI bill

because of Frank Lautenberg. Christie is a crook and you know it, but as long as he's not a DEM you love him, right? Just like Bush who lied, cheated, and is a war criminal but he's OK because he belives in intolerance and war, right? Just keep spewing GOP talking points - it actually does the Dem's a favor! NExt time be a big boy and write some journalism instead of something equivalent to some idiot's writings on the bathroom stall door. I;m sure there are plenty of photos of you picking your nose, or your ass...
