Jon Corzine is about to lose. Badly. In the humble opinion of this columnist, Corzine will lose the election to Republican Chris Christie by about 5 or 6 percentage points. Sure, that might be wishful thinking, but it also might just be an accurate assessment of the current political climate and the majority of recent polling numbers.
Not even the mighty savior of the world, Barack Hussein Obama can save Corzine from himself. His ineptitude and corruption have finally done him in.
Of course, if you saw the new Quinnipiac Poll, you probably think that the taxator-in-chief is safely on his way to a second term. Their new poll shows him 5 points ahead of Chris Christie. Of course, the poll dramatically over-samples Democrats in their attempt to prop up the governor. The internals of the poll reveal Corzine losing independents (by far New Jersey’s largest voting bloc) by 15 points. And still having a lead of 5 points. The poll also found leprechauns and unicorns as the fastest growing new group of voters for the state, while gnomes and elves have seen a dramatic decline.
Seriously folks, is this some sort of new math?
Independents outnumber Republicans and Democrats in New Jersey by far. Is there any valid reason to over-sample Democrats in a bad political year to be a Democrat and for a particular race where the Democrat has unbelievably high negatives while down-playing the number of independents? For accuracy, no. To get the desired outcome, yes.
This skewed sample should absolutely invalidate the poll’s credibility as a prediction of next Tuesday’s outcome. Also damaging for the poll is the three other recent polls that are picking up a last minute surge for Christie. In order to believe the Quinnipiac poll, you have to ignore the Rasmussen poll (Christie +3) the PPP poll (Christie +4) and the Survey USA poll (Christie +2).
Of course, it is entirely possible that the folks at Quinnipiac simply got the Corzine memo for victory. You know, the email sent out by Corzine Deputy Chief of Staff Mark Matzen to 14 state department heads asking them to come up with "one or two or three" events to show that "the economic policies of Governor Corzine are working," by making private sector job growth appear out of thin air. That probably also explains the findings on the unicorn and leprechaun surges.
So daunting a task was this for Corzine’s staff, that Matzen even cautioned them that, "it might be a stretch for some of you, but please be creative." It is entirely possible that the good folks of Quinnipiac got said memo and were confused as to their motivation in conducting the poll. They were simply being “creative.”
The reality on the ground in New Jersey is that Daggett’s numbers began to collapse after people began learning the truth about his tax-raising plans for the state. Christie is experiencing a last minute surge of folks who realize that this state is on the verge of collapse under the guidance of the “wizard of Wall Street.”
In fact, Christie has been all over the place pointing out that when you add in the state property tax, most New Jersey residents are paying upwards of 60% of their income in various taxes. Spread the wealth around indeed!
The state with the highest unemployment rate in the region and with the worst business climate to boot, simply cannot afford four more years of Corzine’s “creative” madness.
Look for an exciting election night that will confound the wise soothsayers at Quinnipiac and Trenton!
