Jordan Vineyard and Winery in Alexander Valley

Jordan Vineyard and Winery is a premier winery in Alexander Valley in the northern part of Sonoma County. The winery is a joy to visit just to tour this beautiful estate with its southwestern France country architecture winery. This old-world style symbolizes the old-world artistry of the winemaking style that is backed by the latest in new-world technology.

Tom Jordan founded Jordan Winery in 1972 when he purchased 275 acres of prune orchards plus 1300 acres of oak woodlands. Tom is a firm believer that the wine starts in the vineyard and the estate is well known for its quality grapes. The fertile Alexander Valley soil combined with the coastal and inland weather influences makes it ideal for growing premium grapes. Jordan Winery offers tours of the winery and grounds along with tastings of their current releases and the estate-grown olive oil. The family tradition has now passed on to Tom’s son John Jordan who is now the CEO. Rob Davis has been the winemaker at Jordon since 1977.

The California Wine Examiner tasting panel recently tasted the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2007 Chardonnay from Jordan. The 2007 Jordon Russian River Valley Chardonnay delights you with aromas of citrus, particularly grapefruit with medium acidity and highlights of butterscotch and crème brulee. The flavors carry over the same citrus qualities of grapefruit and Meyer lemon. It has a medium long finish.

The 2005 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has 76% Cabernet, 19% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. It has the aromas of cherry, cedar and tobacco. Tasting this wine you will find more black fruit with a high level of tannins. This wine is still a bit young and it is suggested that it be decanted before serving.
