Robbed of perfect game, Galarraga gets 2010 Corvette convertible

Today the Chevrolet division awarded Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga a 2010 Corvette convertible

For a close look at Corvette convertibles, you can check out the slideshow below this article.

For those who do not follow sports, Galarraga was on track in the ninth inning to pitch a perfect game against the Cleveland Indians when a blown call by Umpire Jim Joyce dashed his hopes.

By all rights, Galarraga could have engaged in a lot of theatrics, but instead he returned to the mound and retired the next batter.  Galarraga's composure impressed sports fans almost more than a perfect game would have.

Sensing an opportunity, General Motors's GM North American President Mark Reuss swooped in less than 24 hours later and awarded Galarraga a 2010 Corvette convertible.  Reuss remarked that the owners of the Tigers, the Ilitch family, have always been big supporters of General Motors,

It is only fitting we help give back for all the Ilitches have done for Detroit and to celebrate Armando’s pitching and sportsmanship during one of the most captivating evenings in Tigers history.

    That is the tackiest thing I have ever seen! Sure, the car looks nice and the Chevrolet Company is to be commended for their generosity, but it does not right the wrong! I think the commissioner should start the instant replay starting with Gallaraga. There is no need to review past games because it is over and done and you have to start somewhere and sometime. The umpire blew the call and Gallaraga deserves the Perfect Game!!

    @Dan,

    It's a shame, but it was human error. Someday, I'm sure they could put sensors on every player, on the ball, on all the bases and I'm sure we'd get the right call every time. Too clinical for me, I'm afraid. Blown call or not, I'm not crazy about re-writing history I'm not that fond of instant replays in football. Sometimes the best part of the game was just complaining about the stupid refs. How many people got fired up not because of the great pitching but because of the injustice? It's all part of the game. What a great role model Galarraga has been. With so many fallen sports idols, it's nice to see a player you can point out to your kid. But hey, I'm not a sports writer, so what the heck do I know?

    If you want perfect games and perfect calls all the time might as well replace humans with robots.

    UUUUM... A Corvette won't replace a perfect game.
