Jahvid Best seriously injured on scoring play

Jahvid Best took a direct snap in the second quarter, ran off the left tackle, and at the one yard line attempted to hurdle an Oregon State Beaver.

Best, a Heisman candidate to start the season, spectacularly got over the defender and flipped in a diagonal direction, landing on his left shoulder. The fall, from approximately eight to nine feet in the air, caused Best to whiplash his helmet off of him.

The force of the blow left Best motionless on the ground and EMT's were called to attend to Cal's most prominent player. The entire stadium went quiet as Beavers defenders took a knee in a circle of prayer in the end zone and both teams looked on to where Best lay.

After some 20-minutes, Best was strapped to a back board, put on a stretcher, and appeared to be receiving oxygen as he was carted off the field by a number of medical personnel. At the time of this writing, no word on the significance of Best's injuries are known. He was taken to the ER for observation and that is all the information that Cal had released.

The touchdown culminated a 15-play, 94 yard drive that is Cal's longest possession of the season. It also gave the Bears new life in the game as they had been down 14-0 to the Beavers before the score.

*UPDATE*

Cal just released the following: Preliminarily, Best has a concussion and movement in all his extremeties. He has been taken to the emergency room for further evaluation. Cal will provide an updated as soon as one becomes available.
