Last night on The Jay Leno Show Jay made a statement in regards to the late night shuffle happenings at NBC. He stated that he believes that he will be moving to the 11:35 pm spot but nothing has been finalized. He says that he has a lot of respect for Conan O'Brien. He says he understands the fact that his ratings were not enough to keep him on the air and that his show must be removed from the network's nightly line-up.
NBC turned heads when they announced that Jay would be retiring from the tonight show and handing it over to Conan a year ago. NBC made an effort to remove themselves from drama by upping their late night comedy and getting rid of hit drama shows like Law & Order: SVU and ER. Little did they know that the drama on NBC was just getting started.
After retiring from the Tonight Show Jay was given his own new show called The Jay Leno Show. The hype for the funny man's show did not live up to the expectations of the viewers. The ratings were some of the worst NBC has experienced in the last few years.
Meanwhile, Conan O'Brien had taken over the comedy thrown that Jay had passed to him by keeping up the ratings of late night television on the Tonight Show. When asked to move time slots to accommodate Jay Leno the new king of comedy declined the offer. He reports that he wants to keep the dignity of the Tonight Show in tact by keeping it at the same time that it has been at for decades.
From the statement that Jay gave on his show last night it seems that NBC may be getting rid of Conan all-together. There have also been rumors that Jay may decline the offer of the Tonight Show if Conan leaves NBC.
Reno residents can keep up-to-date on the late night drama by watching the NBC shows on channel 4.
