As of March 10, the Glenn Beck's Fox News show has lost 120 advertisers. In the UK, Beck's show has been running without any advertisers for more than a month. But while advertisers are fleeing, the mainstream media has yet to utter a peep about it.
One of the driving forces behind the Beck advertiser boycott is Angelo Carusone. Carusone is New Yorker and currently a third-year law student living in Madison, Wisconsin. He started his "Stop Beck" campaign last July.
Beck is "so far out there," Carusone said. He described what Beck does as "apocalyptic political porn."
What got Carusone fired up to do something about Beck was his concern that the Fox News talk show host and former morning zoo disc jockey "validates the opinions of those who might incite violence." It's not that Beck incites violence directly, Carusone said, but he certainly caters to that crowd who might.
And so he launched StopBeck.com on July 2, 2009. The driving engine behind Carusone's effort is Twitter and the Web site is largely there to post the results of the boycott.
Caruson's "Stop Beck" advertiser boycott has been a huge success, yet, the mainstream media has completely ignored it. There have been a few stories written by alternative news organizations, but there's not a single story from any mainstream publication.
ColorOfChange.org has also been waging a war against Beck advertisers.
Carusone said that last year, after they were able to convince a few dozen advertisers to pull their support for the Glenn Beck Show, he thought, well maybe we just need to get a higher number of advertisers to pull out and then the media will pick up the story.
But now that well over 100 advertisers have walked away from Beck's show, and in the UK his show hasn't had a single advertiser for more than a month, Carusone is left wondering why no one in the mainstream media is interested.
Carusone said he's well-aware of where "Glenn Beck fits on the scale of things," but still it's important to keep the pressure on the advertisers.

Why are you so afraid of Glenn Beck? He frequently calls for peaceful protests citing MLK and Ghandi and warns his audience that violence is what the Left WANTS! Could it be because of the enormous ratings that his show continues to have? Companies that cowtow to boycott's like this are spineless and fail to realize that a large number of people will avoid spending their money with them. Is "free speech" only allowed if it is coming from people who make movies about k.ll.ng GW? Grow up and open your eyes to what is really going on in this country!

What really concerns me is the sheer number of people who don't recognise satire when they see it. Especially since Glenn Beck doesn't hide the fact he's satire. If enough people get angry at political comedy to organise to have it removed from television, that causes me to lose all hope I ever had for society. Seriously, people!
