BYU basketball: Mountain West Tournament pairings announced

 

Men
BYU (28-4, 13-3) has earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament on Mar. 10-13, at the Thomas & Mack Arena in Las Vegas.

In the quarterfinal round, the Cougars will face No. 7 TCU (13-18, 5-11) – which BYU defeated in the regular season finale, 107-77 – at 6 p.m. PST on Thursday. If victorious, BYU will face the winner between No. 3 UNLV (23-7, 11-5) and No. 6 Utah (14-16, 7-9) on Friday at 8:30 p.m. PST.

New Mexico (28-3, 14-2) is the top seed and will open against the winner of the first round game between No. 8 Wyoming (10-20, 3-13) and No. 9 Air Force (9-20, 1-15).

Rounding out the tournament seedings, No. 3 San Diego State (22-8, 11-5) will face No. 5 Colorado State (16-14, 7-9) in the quarterfinal round .

The championship game will be played on Saturday, Mar. 13, at 4 p.m. PST.

All eight games will be broadcast in high definition on The Mtn., CBS College Sports Network and Versus. Check your local listings.

Women
With its regular-season finale win over TCU, BYU (20-8, 11-5) has earned the No. 2 seed in the MWC Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Mar. 9-13 and an automatic spot in the semifinal round on Friday, Mar. 12, at 2:30 p.m. PST.

First round pairings include: No. 4 Utah (19-10, 10-6) vs. No. 9 Air Force (3-26, 0-16), No. 5 New Mexico (17-11, 9-7) vs. No. 8 Colorado State (13-16, 5-11), and No. 6 Wyoming (18-10, 9-7) vs. No. 7 UNLV (13-17, 6-10).

No. 3 San Diego State (18-10, 10-6) has earned an automatic spot in the quarterfinal round and will face the winner of the Wyoming-UNLV game to determine who BYU will face in the semifinal round.

The winners of the Utah-Air Force and New Mexico-Colorado state games will face off in the quarterfinal round for the right to face top seed TCU (22-7, 12-4) in the semifinal round.

The tournament championship game will be played on Saturday, Mar. 13, at 2:30 p.m. PST.

Quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be broadcast on The Mtn. and the championship game will be shown on Versus. Check your local listings.
