SCAPPOOSE — A Portland man was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device, a stop sign,  after a two-vehicle crash that down Highway 30 near milepost 18, for approximately half an hour, according to the Oregon State Police.

The crash occurred just before 6:30 a.m., and emergency personnel from Scappoose Fire, Scappoose Police and the Oregon State Police  responded to the scene.

According to OSP Recruit Trooper Kim Evans, a Freightliner box truck, carrying dairy products and operated by Christopher Mohr, 25, from Tigard, was traveling westbound on Hwy. 30 near mile post 17, in the right lane coming toward the intersection of Old Lower Rocky Point Road and the highway.

A 2008 Jeep Liberty four-door driven by 24-year-old Andrew Gordon, of Portland, turned left from Old Lower Rocky Point Road in front of the path of the box truck.  Mohr steered to the left to avoid the Jeep but was unable to avoid a collision near the center median.

After impact, the box truck flipped onto its side and slid across the eastbound lanes until it came to a stop on the shoulder.

Emergency personnel requested that
LifeFlight  be put on standby, but at 6:30 a.m., dispatchers received notification that LifeFlight was unavailable due to fog. With minor injuries, Mohr was not transported for treatment.

Gordon was extricated from the Jeep with minor injuries, at 6:51 a.m., and transported to Legacy Emanuel hospital, according to emergency personnel.

Both men were using safety restraints, according to the Oregon State Police.

Gordon was cited with failure to obey a traffic control device, a stop sign.

Troopers from the St. Helens office are completing the investigation. Scappoose Police and Fire Departments, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and ODOT assisted at the scene.
