An assortment of sweets tempt the senses upon entering Alpine Bakery & Pizzeria's new location on the corner of Houze and Crabapple Roads. And these are no ordinary cakes, pies, and pastries. A mound of apples fill a baked-to-perfection pie crust just like grandma used to make. Fresh limes and generous swirls of whipped topping garnish a key lime creation while mile-high cakes tease other selections from a top shelf as if to say, "pick me." The sweet-tooth pleasers within this establishment are virtually endless.
Alpine's to-go menu states, "New york is closer than you think." And in true New York bakery fashion the baker's kitchen is fully stocked with all the essentials necessary to capture even the pickiest of taste buds. Extra large portions are a staple. Here, though, a team of bakers work around the clock to fill orders for the next day.
In another area, which houses the main kitchen for the opening-soon Italian restaurant, the to-go menu's pizza, calzone, stromboli, antipasto, and lasagna are made. And there's also a European bread oven, which will be ready to bake various European breads (what else?) within the next week.
But, "the proof is in the pudding" as they say. And Alpine Bakery scratch kitchen with no preservatives aims to please and succeeds beyond one's expectations. Cakes, pies, pastries, and cookies melt in your mouth. The cheesecakes are the creamiest in the South, in my humble opinion. And their pizzas are tender, yet crunchy.
"With the pizza and bakery, we wanted folks to say, 'These are things that you just can't find anywhere else [down here],'" General Manager Anthony DeTommaso said.
Owners William Clementi and Stephen Bishop moved to the area over thirty years ago with a vision. That vision led to a wholesale business which offered over a hundred restaurants in the Southeast their unique baked creations: Two of those restaurants are Marietta Diner and P.F. Chang's. Five years ago, they opened their first retail bakery with a limited to-go menu. And now, the sky seems to be the limit in their new location.
But for now, how does one decide what to take home when their current list of delectable delights includes chocolate mousse cake, cappuccino crunch cake, death by chocolate, Oreo cookies & cream cake, Reeses peanut butter cake, carrot cake, red velvet cake, tirmasu cake, New York blackout cake just to name a few, and a substantial list of cheesecakes and pies as well?
